NEW HAVEN, CONN. (Feb. 8, 2025)–The Save Our Cemetery (SOC) campaign, a veteran-led effort advocating for the expansion and salvation of the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, continues to grow and influence this issue.
Connecticut organizations, including the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), VFW Auxiliary, Disable American Veterans (DAV), Marine Corps League (MCL), Catholic War Veterans (CWV) and the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center (CVLC) have pledged support for the effort. Additionally, more than two dozen veteran and auxiliary posts have formally adopted the Save Our Cemetery (SOC) resolution, calling the governor and legislature to action.
SOC Chairman Charles M. Pickett said, “In our first three months, we have been busy raising awareness, contacting stakeholders, and uniting Connecticut veteran organizations and the community seeking remedies as the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery is nearing capacity and will close.”
The campaign, organized by three Global War on Terror (GWOT) veterans including vice-chairpersons Chaise Hewitt and Michael Monaco, launched a website (https://CTVets.us) and email newsletter, with more than 445 subscribers.
