VFW Connecticut Organizing Veteran Foundation

ROCKY HILL, CONN. (Nov. 30, 2024) — The Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Connecticut is creating a non-profit organization to help local VFW posts and veterans in need.

Under the administration of VFW Department Commander Stanley W. Borusiewicz Jr. and the efforts of Adjutant/Quartermaster Domenic Guiliano, the “VFW Connecticut Foundation” has been incorporated in the state of Connecticut. Guiliano said the next steps are to write bylaws for the organization as the IRS Section 501(c)(3) exemption determination is in progress.

The foundation is being created for charitable and educational exempt purposes potentially for:

  • POST ASSISTANCE GRANTS: Reimbursements for VFW posts making structural improvements or repairs on their post building (such as ADA compliance).
  • SERVICE OFFICE SUPPORT: Renumeration support for the Connecticut VFW Accredited Service Officers, who are experts in filing a claim with the Department of Veterans Affairs, and who’s service is offered — FREE OF CHARGE — to anyone seeking assistance with the claims process.
  • RELIEF SUPPORT GRANTS: Reimbursements for certain relief items for distressed veterans, for VFW posts and districts participating in qualifying veteran stand-downs or health fair events.
  • SPECIAL PROJECT GRANTS: Reimbursements for special charitable and educational projects which support the mission of the Connecticut VFW and/or Auxiliary.
  • DISASTER ASSISTANCE GRANTS: Grants to help Connecticut VFW or Auxiliary members in good standing, bridge immediate needs after a disaster (natural or manmade) and before insurance and/or FEMA claims have been approved.
