Elected to third-highest office by acclimation

ROCKY HILL, CONN. (June 11, 2023)–The Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Connecticut has elected their first Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran to a senior, state-wide office.

Charles M. Pickett was elected to be the 2023 Junior Vice Commander at the Department of Connecticut Convention. While the organization has had a prior Global War on Terror veteran, Pickett was the first to serve in Iraq or Afghanistan and is anticipated to lead the department in 2025.

Pickett ran a months-long campaign over the winter and spring, receiving endorsements from all six Connecticut districts and 14 of the 18 living VFW Past State Commanders. His campaign buttons worn by nearly all attending VFW comrades and dozens of VFW auxiliary members at the convention.
