WESTPORT, CONN. (FEB. 18, 2023)—The Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Connecticut District 1 and Past Commander-in-Chief from Connecticut Edward S. Banas Sr. (2003-2004) have endorsed a Post-9/11 veteran for a state-level leadership position.

VFW District 1, covering Fairfield county, has endorsed VFW New Haven and District 2 Commander Charles M. Pickett to be the 2023 Department Junior Vice Commander. He was unanimously endorsed by the largest VFW district in Connecticut at the February 18, 2023 monthly meeting at the Joseph J. Clinton VFW Post 399 in Westport.

Additionally, Past Commander-in-Chief Edward S. Banas Sr., who lead the entire VFW organization from 2003-2004 and was past Connecticut Department Commander in 1993-1994, said he would be honored to endorse Pickett for Department Jr. Vice Commander.

Pickett is now endorsed by 14 of 18 living past department commanders and half of the districts–including the largest two–in the state as the campaign seeks to secure the nomination well before the June Department of Connecticut convention.
